Why Choosing a Known Midwife (and a Quality Birth Class) Matters
Over the past few months, I’ve worked with so many women who are navigating anxiety in pregnancy — and for such a wide range of reasons.
Some feel overwhelmed by the pressure of making the "right" choices. Others are unsettled by rushed hospital appointments, conflicting advice, or the fear of birth itself. Many are quietly carrying stress about how they’ll cope, how they’ll be supported, or if their voice will truly be heard when it matters most.
And while every woman’s story is different, what I see again and again is this:
So much of that anxiety softens when she’s supported by someone she knows and trusts. That’s the magic of private midwifery and continuity of care. It’s not just about medical checkups — it’s about having someone who walks the journey with you. Someone who listens, who remembers your story, who holds space for your questions and your fears. Someone you trust will be there through the ups and downs, calm and grounded, advocating for you when you need it most.
Please, don’t wait until it’s too late.
I often meet women in their second or third pregnancy, already feeling unsettled or disappointed with the care they received in their last pregnancy. And my heart aches a little every time I hear the words:
“I didn’t know this kind of care was even an option.”
or
“I wish I had found you sooner.”
So if you’re early in your pregnancy — or even if you’re already partway through — let this be your invitation to reach out. Private midwifery care is available. It’s evidence-based, deeply supportive, and absolutely worth exploring.
And please… don’t skip the birth class.
Another thing I gently encourage every woman I work with: invest in an independent, woman-centred birth class. Hospital classes can be hit or miss — often focused on policy and pain relief rather than empowerment and physiology. The right class can change everything. It can help you understand how your body really works in labour, how to support the natural flow of labour, and how to stay grounded even when things don’t go to plan. It can help your partner feel confident and useful, not just a bystander. And it can give you tools that actually make a difference on the day.
My next Active Birth Workshops are coming up on:
🗓️ Saturday 27 April
🗓️ Saturday 25 May
These are small, practical, and deeply supportive sessions where we cover:
✔️ How labour unfolds naturally
✔️ Tools and positions to support your body
✔️ How to work with pain and avoid unnecessary interventions
✔️ Supportive partner roles
✔️ And so much more...
If you're a first or subsequent time mum who wants to feel informed, calm, and prepared — I would love to welcome you.
Let’s give your birth and early motherhood the strong foundation it deserves.
Because you deserve to feel safe, supported, and seen — not just as a pregnant person, but as a whole woman on the threshold of motherhood.
