Statement of Service

Thank you for considering my services for your pregnancy journey.

I believe in woman’s autonomy and centre my care around you and your family’s individual needs.

Philosophy of care

The childbearing journey is a normal life event and in most circumstances does not need to be managed in a medical model.

Working with you one-on-one from early in pregnancy through to six weeks after birth allows us to gain a thorough and holistic understanding of your health and wellbeing.

I support normal pregnancy and physiological birth and support you to be central to any decision making around screening and monitoring, with a foundation of good nutrition and personal responsibility taken for overall wellness. I take into consideration and acknowledge the role of emotional, spiritual and cultural safety in relation to the pregnancy and mothering journey. I have a strong belief in the power of natural therapies. I love to collaborate with your chiropractor, acupuncturist, naturopath or therapist of choice to achieve optimal health and wellbeing for you and your baby.

Aim of the service

To help you to prepare yourself physically, emotionally, and spiritually for your birth and parenthood. This is achieved by individualised discussion and information exchange, relationship building, and as indicated and agreed to, assessments of you and your baby.

Details of service provided

My role is to create a trusting partnership with you and your family. Midwifery care will take place in my clinic room (and sometimes in your home) throughout the antenatal period and for up to six weeks postpartum. I will arrange for you to be booked in to your local hospital for labour and birth care. At this stage I am unable to provide labour and birth care, but I will ensure you and your birth support person feel prepared with the knowledge and tools to feel empowered on your birthing journey.

Pregnancy care typically involves checking on the growth and wellbeing of you and your baby. This usually involves abdominal palpation and listening to the baby’s heartbeat, blood pressure checks, and other clinical screening and tests as indicated. During visits, there will be plenty of opportunities to discuss your wellbeing and learn about your wishes and hopes for pregnancy, birth, and beyond.

There may be times when it is indicated to consult or refer with another care provider. If I feel this is necessary I will discuss this with you and gain your consent before proceeding.

As part of my professional practice, we are required to work in collaboration with your GP and the hospital you are booked in to. I request your consent to share information with your hospital regarding your and your baby’s wellbeing as part of the collaboration process. To meet my professional responsibilities and the requirements of my insurance policy I am required to work within the framework of the Australian College of Midwives National Guidelines for Consultation and Referral. This guideline lists circumstances in which (if they arise) I might recommend or refer care to a relevant health practitioner or health service during pregnancy or the postnatal period.

Antenatal visits

Every 4 weeks until 32 weeks, fortnightly until 36 weeks then every week until baby is born.

Visits are usually 30-60 minutes in duration.

Postnatal visits

A home visit will be arranged to take place within 24-48 hrs of you being discharged from hospital. Further postnatal visits up to 6 weeks and 6 days normally take place in my clinic and will be dependent on your individual needs.

Inability to meet service requirements

In the event of serious family illness, accident or death, or any circumstances in which I feel unfit to attend you, with consent, I will endeavour to arrange appropriate care from another midwife or provider.

Should a situation arise where I feel my ability to provide safe care is compromised, I maintain my right to withdraw services. Referral to another care provider will be provided where possible and if requested.

You maintain the right to cancel my service at any time, and you remain responsible for any fees owing for services already provided.
